Our tea bags are 100% compostable and biodegradable. Find out more about our tea bags here.
Q: HOW MUCH CAFFEINE IS IN MY TEA?
A: When preparing tea, several factors will impact the amount of caffeine in your cup:
- Water temperature. The hotter the water, the more stimulant will be extracted.
- Time. The longer you steep your tea, the bigger the buzz.
- Tea type. Steeped black teas have higher levels of theine than green teas for a few reasons: Higher steeping temperature. Longer steeping times. There is also some research showing that the longer oxidization process that black tea undergoes makes caffeine easier to extract.
- Tea blend ingredients. Are you drinking a pure tea (100% camellia sinensis) or a blend of tea leaves with other ingredients such as fruit, spices, herbs, or flowers? The lower the proportion of tea leaves, the lower the caffeine - as herbal ingredients do not contain caffeine.
Black Tea – 45mg
Green Tea – 18mg
Herbal Tea – 0mg
Q: HOW DO I ADD A ONE TIME PURCHASE TO MY SUBSCRIPTION ORDER?
A: If the renewal date for your subscription order is coming up, and you would like to add a non-subscription item to the order, you can place a separate order for the new item. Instead of shipping the order, choose the 'pick up' option (to avoid shipping fees), and add a note for us from the cart page letting us know that you would like to add this in with your upcoming subscription. When your subscription order is generated, we will combine the two orders!
Q: HOW IS YOUR TEA LOCAL?
A: At Pluck, we proudly highlight local and Canadian grown ingredients in our teas.
From Prince Edward County lavender, to Southbrook Vineyards grape skins, Chocosol cocoa nibs, and Nova Scotia berries we are always on the lookout for new ingredients to showcase in our premium blends. Find out more here.
We blend and pack in Toronto, and make all tea bags in our facility.
Q: WHAT’S WITH THE NAME?
A: Pluck is the first measure of quality in tea production. Tea is traditionally harvested by hand–plucking, and the crop is graded by its ‘pluck’. We’re pretty big on quality.
Pluck also has a second meaning: a person with ‘pluck’ is spirited, determined, and courageous. Our mission is to become the bravest and boldest tea company in the world. Plucky indeed.
Q: I AM A BIG FAN. WHERE CAN I BUY YOUR TEAS?
A: We've published a handy interactive map here. If you don't see a retailer close by, the best place to find our complete lineup is right here on our website - and we offer free shipping for orders over $50.
Q: CAN I STOP BY YOUR OFFICE TO PICK SOME UP?
A: Our facility in midtown Toronto is open by appointment only, but we are always happy to accommodate pick–up orders. Please place your order online and select 'pick up' on checkout. We will send you an update by e-mail when your order is ready and waiting! Pick up is available M-F from 9-4pm only. We are not open on weekends or statutory holidays.
Q: WHAT ARE THE HEALTH BENEFITS OF YOUR TEAS?
A: The benefits of tea consumption are well documented, and new health studies are being published all the time.
The Tea Association of Canada (www.tea.ca) is a great resource for the most up-to-date material.
Q: DO YOU USE NUTS IN YOUR TEAS? HOW ABOUT GLUTEN?
A: We do not include nuts in our blends, and nuts are not permitted on premises.
The ingredients we blend with do not include gluten. This includes all natural flavours where applied.
We follow strict allergen guidelines, however we are not certified ‘Nut-Free’ or 'Gluten-Free' at this time.
Q: WHAT ARE NATURAL FLAVOURS?
A: Natural flavours are flavours that are derived from real plant–based ingredients. At Pluck we believe that natural ingredients make better tea.
Most of the natural flavours we use in our flavoured teas are alcohol–based. The flavour is applied to the tea leaves as an ultra fine concentrated mist in a minimal amount while the leaves are tumbled in a mixer, and the alcohol quickly evaporates away – leaving the pure flavour behind. (There is no alcohol in our tea leaves)
Tip: You can try making your own natural flavours at home by using a neutral sprit (vodka for example) and soaking fruits, spices, or fresh botanicals in it. Vanilla bean is an excellent ingredient to try.
Q: DO YOU USE ARTIFICIAL FLAVOURS IN YOUR TEAS?
A: No. We only use natural ingredients and flavours.
Q: ARE THERE ORANGES IN ORANGE PEKOE?
A: No. Never have been, never will be.
